Booking Notes

Experience levels & ages

Age limit for riding : 10Mikey looking forward to the day

We ask all our guests who are booking for horse riding to declare their experience level at the time of booking, using our standard definitions. As well as being an important safety factor helping to ensure you are matched as much as possible to your mount, this ensures the right horse for your skills can be reserved prior to you arriving at the stables.

On booking, we will send you a form asking your weight & height, riding experience, how often you ride and when you last rode.

You do not have to be an experienced rider, as we cater for all levels from absolute beginner, through "nervous novice" and "rusty rider" to experienced.

Maximum weights

We also would advise that, in consideration for our horses, we impose an upper weight limit of 90kg (14st) "clothed with riding boots / shoes" for all horse riding activities - though for a short ride of around an hour or so we could accommodate up to 94 kg (14st 7lb).

Please note that in summer or other hot periods we will not ride mid day as it is too hot for the horses. Therefore at those times we usually ride either in the morning, or in the cool of the long Mediterranean evenings.  Also, occasionally, we may need to change either the itinerary slightly or the days we ride on, due to weather, trail conditions or other circumstances beyond our control.

Riding and holiday travel insurance

Riding holidays, as Joan the horse, a 15hh chestnut mareany sports or activity holiday, carry an element of risk, and some or all of the activities offered may be classified as having a high level of risk attached to them. As a condition of booking you accept this risk and undertake to have adequate travel, personal accident, medical and cancellation insurance that covers the activities you will be undertaking.

Insurance is not included in our riding holidays as many of our clients already have annual travel policies &/or specialised policies for riding at home.  In the event that you need do need either travel insurance or additional cover for riding, please see our riding holiday insurance page.

EHIC cards - old E111 paper forms

If you are a resident of an EU country we advise you that the E111 form has now been superseded by the European Health insurance Card (EHIC) and strongly recommend all clients from EU countries to bring their EHIC cards with them.  That said, we would bring to your attention that this card only covers any medical treatment that becomes necessary during your trip on a "state-provided" basis (i.e. as provided to an "insured" person living in the country you are visiting) and that this may not cover the same treatment or costs as that of your native country.

Riding helmets & clothes

We strongly advise that all clients wear an approved riding Paddocks in the sierrassafety helmet, and offer them as part of all our riding itineraries.  That said we recognise that some clients may prefer to ride in other hats.  In this case we will ask you to sign a simple disclaimer, stating that you have been offered the loan of riding helmet but have declined and accept full responsibility for your decision.

We recommend that you wear long trousers (or lightweight jodhpurs if you have them) for your comfort; shorts are not advised as the stirrup leathers will bruise your legs.  Lightweight gloves are also a good idea.  A suitable shoe / boot for riding with a small heel should be worn.  See What to pack for your riding holiday for a suggested "kit list".

Non riding partners or friends?

We have the perfect answer for you as all the optional activities from our parent company, Totally Sorted Sports, are available as well.  So if you've got a non riding partner or friend, we can get them sorted out while you're in the saddle!  See non riding partners or friends for more info.

Equally, if you fancy relaxing in a luxury Spa session after riding, or perhaps taking a guided visit to the Alhambra palace in Granada (or even getting into a different saddle on a mountain or quad bike) all our other activities are available and payable locally.

All holidays, riding & other activities offered are subject to availability and subject to our terms & conditions of booking. While the dates & timings for all our riding itineraries and activities are given in good faith, they are subject to change for both operational, safety and weather reasons as certain activities are highly weather dependent. We cannot therefore guarantee that any one ride will always be on any one particular day, but will always endeavour with regard to the conditions at that time to re-schedule in order to safely accommodate everything as best we can. Also, please note (especially in off peak season) that provision of some activities are subject to minimum numbers. All prices correct at time of publishing, but may be subject to change.
